Two South Florida Players Garner WPSL Team
of the Week Honors
Two
local former high school stand-outs were named to the WPSL Team of the Week
for their play last weekend with the Miami Kickers FC. Samantha Wright
(Cornell University) and April Perry (FIU) earned their spots on the Week
III roster after the Kickers won their first two games June 5th (7-1 over
Puerto Rico Capitals) & June 7th (2-0 of Florida Surge). Wright had 2
goals and 3 assists in the Capitals match and Perry scored a goal in each
game. Sam was 2008 Sun-Sentinel Player of the Year from Cypress Bay High
School while April was 2008 Miami Herald Player of the Year at Hollywood
Hills High School, both just completed successful freshman seasons at their
respective Division I colleges. The WPSL is the largest women's amateur
league in the US with 52-teams across the country. The Kickers currently
stand in 1st place in the Sunshine Conference and face the also undefeated
Palm Beach United on Sunday, June14th, 7pm at American Heritage School in
Plantation. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children, youth players
wearing their club team jerseys get in free.
