Three Florida Girls Called up for for U17 Duty

The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team will travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina from Dec. 4-14 to play four international matches.

Kaili Torres, Bryane Heaberline, and Morgan Brian have been called on by U.S. head coach Kazbek Tambi to travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina  from Dec. 4-14 to play four international matches. Torres and Brian, teammates on the Ponte Vedra Storm u-16 team that took second place at the Youth Soccer National Championships, are no strangers to international competition. Brian the team captain is the lone hold over from 2008 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand that took second place. Torres of Puerto Rican descent spent time with the Puerto Rican u-17 National team and trained with the US u-17 National team in Sunrise Florida last Jan. 28-Feb 5.

U.S. head coach Kazbek Tambi will bring 18 players to face the Argentina U-17 and U-20 Women’s National Teams as well as combined U-17 and U-20 squads from Chile and Uruguay. The matches will be valuable preparation for the U.S. U-17s, who are getting ready for CONCACAF qualifying for the 2010 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup which will be held in Trinidad & Tobago from Sept. 5-25. The qualifying tournament is being held in Costa Rica next March with the USA going for one of three spots from CONCACAF. As host, T&T has an automatic berth. The U.S. roster features one hold-over from the squad that took second place at the 2008 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand is team captain Morgan Brian. The USA opens its four-match run in Buenos Airs against a combined Chile team on Dec. 7. The USA will face the Argentina U-17s on Dec. 8 and the U-20s on Dec. 11 before finishing with the combined Uruguay team on Dec. 13. The USA has played three international matches so far this year, all against an older Germany in Florida last February, losing twice and tying once.
