Three Florida Girls Called up for for U17 Duty
The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team will travel to Buenos Aires,
Argentina from Dec. 4-14 to play four international matches.

Torres, Bryane Heaberline, and Morgan Brian have been called on by U.S. head
coach Kazbek Tambi to travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina from Dec. 4-14
to play four international matches. Torres and Brian, teammates on the
Ponte Vedra Storm u-16
team that took second place at the Youth Soccer National
Championships, are no strangers to international competition. Brian the team
captain is the lone hold over from 2008 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup
in New Zealand that took second place. Torres of Puerto Rican descent spent
time with the Puerto Rican u-17 National team and trained with the US u-17
National team in Sunrise Florida last Jan.

U.S. head coach Kazbek Tambi will bring 18 players to face the
Argentina U-17 and U-20 Women’s National Teams as well as combined U-17 and
U-20 squads from Chile and Uruguay. The matches will be valuable preparation
for the U.S. U-17s, who are getting ready for CONCACAF qualifying for the
2010 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup which will be held in Trinidad & Tobago
from Sept. 5-25. The qualifying tournament is being held in Costa Rica next
March with the USA going for one of three spots from CONCACAF. As host, T&T
has an automatic berth. The U.S. roster features one hold-over from the
squad that took second place at the 2008 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in New
Zealand is team captain Morgan Brian. The USA opens its four-match run in
Buenos Airs against a combined Chile team on Dec. 7. The USA will face the
Argentina U-17s on Dec. 8 and the U-20s on Dec. 11 before finishing with the
combined Uruguay team on Dec. 13. The USA has played three international
matches so far this year, all against an older Germany in Florida last
February, losing twice and tying once.
