The Atlanta Silverbacks defeated the Tampa Bay Hellenic tonight by a
score of 3-0 on its first annual City of Doraville Night. The Silverbacks
move to 2-0-0 on the year, while the Hellenic fall to 1-1-0.
The ‘Backs struck first, with a goal from striker Alexa Newfield in the 16th
minute of the match. Midfielder Megan Tomlinson provided a nice ball into
the left side of the box for the assist, allowing Newfield to fire her shot
past Hellenic keeper Ashley Baker.
Atlanta nearly doubled its lead in the just a few minutes later after a shot
from midfielder Gabi Rivera went inches wide of the net. Silverbacks forward
Cortni Joyner had two great opportunities in the 34th minute of the game,
hitting the post and nearly scoring off another rebound seconds later.
The Silverbacks would continue their strong play and aggressive mindset
throughout the first half, putting continual pressure on the Hellenic
defense.
