Hellenic Make It Two In a Row!

The Tampa Bay Hellenic won their second game in a row by an identical margin as their game two days earlier, 3-0, against a very tough and aggressive Hampton Roads Piranhas on Memorial Day at Ed Radice Park.

After a delayed start because of lightning in the air, the thunder began on the field at the 3:32 starting whistle with both teams coming out strong. The first goal came in the 33rd minute when Sarah Chapman saw the Piranhas keeper, Vicky Johnson, off her line and blasted a 30 yard shot that floated into the far corner of the goal. Just before halftime, Shameka Gordon placed a perfect pass to a streaking Sonia Curvelo who lifted her shot just over the head of Johnson, and it just dipped into the goal. In spite of the score, Hampton Roads outshot the Hellenic nine shots to 5 in the first half, with first half Hellenic keeper, Mallori Lofton-Malachi making some beautiful saves to keep the Hellenic’s lead.

The second half keeper for the Hellenic, Ashley Baker , had to start the second half off just as Lofton-Malachi had ended the first half…making crucial saves. The Piranhas pressed the goal and had better possession during most of the game, but the Hellenic keepers held solid to keep them scoreless. In the 69th minute, Hellenic forward Chelsea Klotz was taken out in the box and a PK was awarded to the Hellenic. Sarah Chapman converted the PK, earning her third goal of the young season and making the score 3-0 where it would stay. The Piranhas outshot the Hellenic 18 shots to 8, and the Hellenic keepers were forced to make 11 saves to the Piranhas 3, but at the end of the game, the scoreboard was in favor of the Hellenic.

Next up for the Hellenic is the Charlotte Lady Eagles next Saturday night at 7pm at the Ed Radice fields. Charlotte is coming off of a 4-1 victory over the Richmond Kickers and looking for another win.
