Auburndale searching for sponsors for sports complex
AUBURNDALE - Auburndale city commissioners decided at a meeting Monday to
allow a search for corporate sponsorship of the Lake Myrtle Sports
Complex. They also decided to extend a contract for lighting of the soccer
complex and reviewed the city's capital outlay budget for the next two
The city of Auburndale will get 40 percent of the sponsorship revenue,
Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing will get 20 percent and the
Florida Youth Soccer Association will receive 20 percent. Auburndale will
also reserve 10 percent for a maintenance improvement fund for the soccer
facilities, and Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing will put 10
percent toward fulfilling the sponsorships.
The options for naming are
plentiful. Anyone seeking to rename the complex itself can pay $5 million
over 10 years or, for the baseball facilities, $2.5 million over 10 years.
A single field costs $15,000 to name.
City manager Bobby Green said that several corporate sponsors have
already been found.
