BATON ROUGE, La. (June 22, 2014) — Sunday brought an end to exciting preliminary games at the 2014 US Youth Soccer Region III (South) Championships, at the BREC Burbank-Soccer Complex in Baton Rouge, La. The chase for the Regional and National Championship continues for the 96 teams who have qualified to move on from their preliminary groups.
Georgia has the most teams advancing out of pool play with 19, while Florida is close behind with 17. The host Louisiana Soccer Association has seven teams advancing.
Monday will feature quarterfinal matches in the Under-14 through Under-16 age groups. The earliest games begin at 8:15 a.m. CT and continue throughout the day with the last matches kicking off at 1:30 p.m.
Eight of the nine returning 2013 Region III Champions are still alive in the hunt to defend their titles, including New Orleans-based 97 Louisiana Fire Navy. After dropping its opening game, the Fire required a critical 2-0 win on Sunday to advance to the quarterfinals. more
