The teams opened play with a 45-minute period and finished with a pair of 30-minute periods.
The Gators’ first score started when All-American Erika Tymrak’s back-heel flick found Holly King in the middle of the field. Havana Solaun ran onto the ball sent by King down the center of the field and Solaun scored from 12 yards in the 36th minute.
Florida scored again in the second period. Tessa Andujar, deep in the Knight half, sent a cross into the box. Tymrak finished at the near post in the 56th minute to put UF up 2-0.
Saturday’s exhibition was a chance to see Florida in action against a quality opponent and also allowed seven to make their first appearance in a Gator uniform. UF Head Coach Becky Burleigh liked what she saw from the team.
“I really liked the intensity of our effort. At times our execution was really good but at times our execution was lacking just a little bit, but that is kind of expected at this point of the season,” Burleigh said. “For the people who haven’t played before, they were able to get the first-game jitters out a little bit. That helped a lot because when some of the people went in, the execution issues were due to being nervous. To have a game like this was really important for us.” more
