Hermosa Hat Trick Powers Stetson Past Webber

DeLand, Fla. - Senior midfielder Alexis Hermosa (Orlando, Fla.) scored three goals in a 15:23 span in the first half to lead the Stetson women’s soccer team to a 6-0 win over visiting Webber International in the team’s exhibition finale Tuesday at the Stetson Soccer Complex. Senior midfielder Samantha Snyder (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) added two goals in the second half of the 60-minute preseason affair.

Hermosa opened the scoring in the 12th minute by putting home a rebound of freshman midfielder Colleen O’Kennedy’s (Oviedo, Fla.) strike off the left post. O’Kennedy would dish out another assist 10 minutes later, passing from the middle to the right edge of the 18-yard box, where sophomore forward Kait Jones (DeLand, Fla.) punched a ball towards goal that the Webber keeper mishandled into her own net.

Jones then found Preseason All-Atlantic Sun Team honoree Hermosa for another goal in the 24th minute and when another Stetson rush resulted in a foul in the box and a penalty kick in the 27th minute, it was Hermosa that finished off her first half hat trick from the spot.

Snyder scored both of Stetson’s goals in the second stanza, burying a penalty kick in the 38th minute after another ill-timed Warrior foul and delivering a strong ball just under the crossbar in the 41st minute to bring the final score to 6-0. more
